Privacy Policy
How we handle your data.
1. Who we are
New Éire is an independent, anonymous Irish civic platform. We are not a political party, a state body, or a registered company. For data protection law in the European Union and in Ireland, New Éire is the data controller.
Contact: neweirenews@gmail.com
Website: https://neweiremedia.ie
Facebook: New Eire on Facebook
This policy is written under the GDPR (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
2. What this site does
This site collects a public vote of no confidence in the Government of Ireland, publishes news and a public record, and lists peaceful protests. The only personal data we ask you to send us on this site is what you put on the vote form.
3. What we collect when you vote or subscribe
If you use the subscribe form on a story, we store your email, the page you subscribed from, the time, and that you consented to news and updates. You can withdraw by emailing us. We do not sell that list.
If you cast a vote, we store:
- your name;
- your county;
- your email;
- your ballot (no confidence, or confidence);
- whether you asked for news and updates;
- the date and time the vote was received;
- that you ticked consent, and which version of this policy applied.
We do not ask for your address, PPS number, date of birth, or phone on the vote form. Do not put those in the name field.
Your name, county, email and ballot are personal data. Your ballot is also special-category data under Article 9 GDPR (political opinion). We only store a vote if you give explicit consent by ticking the box on the form.
4. Why we collect it, and the legal basis
We use vote data only to:
- count the mandate;
- show public totals (numbers only);
- keep a record that a named person in a named county cast that ballot;
- check obvious duplicates or abuse if we have to;
- if you ticked news and updates, send you New Éire news. That tick is optional. You can vote without it. You can withdraw it by emailing us.
Legal basis: Article 6(1)(a) GDPR — consent, and for the ballot itself Article 9(2)(a) GDPR — explicit consent to processing of political opinion.
You can refuse. If you do not tick the box, the vote is not sent and nothing is stored. Consent is not a condition of browsing the rest of the site.
We do not use vote data for profiling, scoring, automated decisions, or sale to anyone.
5. What is public, and what is not
The running totals (how many votes, how many no-confidence) are public on the vote page. Those totals are numbers. They are not a list of names.
Individual ballots — your name, county, email, and how you voted — are not published on this website. They are held in our records so the mandate can be counted and, if required, shown as a body of evidence. We will not post your ballot on Facebook or anywhere else as “this person voted X”.
We may later publish or present aggregate figures (for example totals by county) that cannot reasonably identify you. We will not publish a name-and-ballot list without a further lawful basis and a further notice on this page.
Protests
The protests page is not collecting names, RSVPs, or organising forms at present. If you write to us about protests, use neweirenews@gmail.com. That email is handled as ordinary correspondence, not as a structured vote record.
6. Where it is stored
Votes are stored securely on cloud database servers located inside the EU/EEA. Our cloud hosting providers act as our processors for hosting and database storage. They process the data on our instructions and are not given the right to use your vote for their own purposes.
Security: the public cannot read individual vote records through this website. Access is strictly limited to the anonymous operators who run the platform, for the purposes in this policy. No system is invulnerable. If we become aware of a personal-data breach that must be notified, we will notify the Data Protection Commission and, where the law requires it, you.
7. How long we keep it
We keep each vote for as long as that work is ongoing, and for a further 24 months after we close the collection, unless you ask us to erase it sooner and we are not required by law to keep it.
If you ask us to erase your vote, we will delete the named record. The public totals may stay as numbers; we will not keep your name attached to them.
8. Your rights
You have the right, under GDPR, to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- rectify it if it is wrong;
- erase it (“right to be forgotten”), including withdrawal of consent;
- restrict processing;
- object;
- data portability (a copy of your vote record in a usable format);
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of what we did before you withdrew.
To use any of these rights, email neweirenews@gmail.com from an address you control, state your name and county as entered on the form, and say what you want done. We will answer within one month, or tell you if we need more time, as the law allows.
You also have the right to complain to the Irish supervisory authority:

9. Children
You must be 16 or over to cast a vote on this site. We do not knowingly store votes from children under 16. If you believe we have, email us and we will delete the record.
10. Analytics and what we do not collect
Pages load a Google tag (Google Analytics, measurement ID G-QF3B79XFCF) so we can see how many people visit, which pages they open, and roughly where the traffic comes from. Google may set cookies or use a similar identifier, and may process your IP address and browser details as a separate controller for that service. We do not use that data to identify voters or to join it to a named vote.
No Facebook Pixel on these pages.
No account login, no password, no payment data.
The Facebook link in the footer is a link. Clicking it is you going to Meta’s service, under Meta’s terms, not us embedding a tracker.
11. Fonts and technical data
Pages load standard web fonts. Your browser will request those files from the font provider. That can expose your IP address and browser details as a separate controller for that request. The vote itself is not included in that request.
Our secure host will log ordinary web requests (IP address, browser, page requested, time) as any host does, to run and secure the site. We do not use those logs to identify voters or to build a marketing list.
12. Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data. We do not share named vote records with parties, candidates, journalists, or other campaigns.
We will only disclose a named record if:
- the law requires it (for example a binding order); or
- we must do so to protect the site or the public against crime or serious harm; or
- you ask us, in writing, to send your own record to you or to a person you name.
13. International transfers
Vote records are stored in the EU. Our cloud processor may support that service from outside the EEA under the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and GDPR terms. We do not send your ballot to a third country for our own use.
14. Changes
If we collect new fields, move storage, start publishing names, or add tracking, this page will be updated first, with a new effective date. A vote already cast stays under the version you consented to, unless the law lets us rely on a new basis and we tell you.
15. English
This policy is in English. That is the binding text.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
